What Shopify Functions Is
Shopify Functions is Shopify's replacement for that kind of logic, and it is a significant upgrade in almost every way.
Instead of Ruby scripts that run inside a locked checkout environment, Functions are small pieces of code that run directly on Shopify's infrastructure. They are faster, more reliable, and far easier to test and deploy. They also work with a much wider set of use cases than Scripts ever did.

How to Know If Your Store Is Affected
The quickest way to check is to go to your Shopify admin and look under Apps for anything labelled Script Editor. If you have scripts published there, you have live Scripts running.
Common things that run through Scripts include automatic discount stacking, free gift logic, hidden payment methods for specific customer groups, and custom shipping rate calculations. If any of those apply to your store, they need to be rebuilt in Shopify Functions or through a dedicated app before the deadline.
What the Migration Involves
Rebuilding in Shopify Functions is not a like-for-like copy and paste. The logic is written differently, tested differently, and deployed differently. For straightforward Scripts, the migration is manageable. For complex multi-condition discount logic or deeply customised checkout behaviour, it takes proper scoping and development time.
There are also third-party apps built on Shopify Functions that cover many common use cases without custom development. Whether you go custom or app-based depends on the complexity of what your Scripts are currently doing.

Shopify retiring Scripts is part of a broader shift toward a more open, extensible platform. Functions, combined with Checkout Extensibility and the Shopify app ecosystem, represent how Shopify wants stores to build and customise going forward.
